From Invitation to Inclusion: Creating a Culture Where Everyone Dances

“Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance.” – Verna Myers
It’s a quote that often comes up in DEI workshops, and it really resonates with me.

It makes me think of being a teenager at a party. Of course, it's great to get the invite to the party. But if you're standing against the wall, clutching a drink, watching everyone else on the dancefloor having a great time, you somehow feel even lonelier than if you had not been invited at all.

Being invited is one thing.
Being actively included is something else.

The tricky bit is creating a culture where people feel that they are welcome to get up and dance without being judged.

What has someone else done to make you feel included? Have you ever had a manager who got it right?
