Is the 'old school' management style a relic of the past?

Is the 'old school' management style a relic of the past, or does it still hold value in today's dynamic work environment?

This week, I had a thought-provoking coaching session with a manager who identifies with the 'old school' approach. While we can honour the past's contributions, it's important to recognise that evolving times offer us a chance to refine our practices.

We know more than ever before about what motivates people and what facilitates good performance. So, as we learn and grow, we can keep what was good from the past, but also evolve our style into something which works for people here and now.

I think football provides a good example here. Consider 'old school' icons like Brian Clough. His methods were suited to his era, but could modern figures like Klopp or Guardiola succeed with the same approach today? Were the old days really so golden, or was it simply harder to voice concerns?

Evolving what gave us success in the past is tough. How have you managed to keep your style fresh?
